Vroom Vroom In Vegas As Formula One Brings Out The Big Spenders

Formula One racing is coming to Las Vegas from November 16-18, 2023. Formula One will be rolling down a track built on The Strip right by the iconic casino resorts of Las Vegas.

Millions of people are hooked on F1 drama, with competitors like Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, and the incredible teams behind the cars.

Fast machines, young-gun drivers, celebrities and hotties, outrageous parties and backstage drama on Netflix and ESPN, plus money, have convinced Las Vegas to bring back Formula One. (Previous F1 races in Las Vegas were in the early 1980’s.)

The race, officially known as the Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix, will certainly promote Las Vegas to a global audience. Formula One is watched in more than 150 countries.

But Las Vegas likes to take its money up front, rather than wait for the trickle-down effect. And with 100,000 people expected at the race each day, the casino hotels have put together dream destination packages limited only by the size of your bankroll. Do-it-yourselfers could also get tickets from Formula One directly here. High-end Paddock tickets are sold out but may be available through the hotels.

With many hotels offering three to seven-night packages that start over $6,000 and go up to nearly $1 million, the hotels clearly expect F1 to deliver something of a free-spending whale convention.

The forecasted economic impact in Nevada is estimated at $1.2 billion. That’s more than twice the revenue to be generated by the 2024 Super Bowl at Las Vegas Allegiant Stadium.

Las Vegas has built a $500 million paddock building as the centerpiece for the Formula One race. The 300,000-square-foot, three-level structure includes the garages and pits, plus skyboxes and a rooftop terrace for viewing.

Formula One will be an ideal match for Las Vegas as it’s “a nighttime race, because of the television audience Formula One gathers,” says Doni Taube, Senior Vice President of Business Development, Resorts World Las Vegas.

Taube says that on the Los Vegas Grand Prix track, “Spring Mountain is the turn, and they go down Koval around MSG Sphere. The entire track is 3.8 miles.”

The city has been gearing up for the race for months, Taube says. “Street repaving started in May and June. The city is removing reflectors and using stripes. Barriers go up in October. Las Vegas is quite used to this kind of thing.”

Resorts World, a $3.5 billion resort and the newest hotel on the Strip, already caters to an upscale crowd. Resorts World customers might be able to catch some of the race with the view of the Strip from Allē Lounge on 66—the 66th floor.

But the real action will be in the Formula One facilities near the track, with grandstand, paddock and skybox accommodations. Taube says Resort World’s allotment is a little over 1000 tickets, divided between grandstand, paddock and skybox. “We’re over 60% sold now, we’ll sell out.”

Taube says, “Having the race at night provides a unique activation schedule across the city.” Activations are essentially parties for products and sponsors. As Taube puts it, “F1 is a lifestyle opportunity.”

The hotel packages available for F1 boggles the mind. For example, Resorts World is marketing The 888 Experience which ‘represents luck and good fortune.’

The four-night 888 Experience is packed with luxury for the Formula 1 visitor. It includes a Crockfords’ Palace Suite with private butler service, an Entourage Suite, four Superior Rooms, six Paddock Club tickets, ten Grandstand tickets, private domestic or International first-class air transportation, transportation in Las Vegas, VIP experiences at Zouk Nightclub, Allē Lounge on 66, Awana Spa, even custom tailoring and styling services.

Customers of The 888 Experience no doubt have previously experienced good fortune, as the package is $888,000 USD.

Off the Strip, the Palms is offering the competitive 777 Experience for, yup, $777,000. It includes the 9,000 square foot Empathy Suite designed by artist Damien Hirst. The suite boasts two king bedrooms, a private pool, terrace, and floor-to-ceiling windows with jetliner views of the Strip.

Reserving a race week stay gets you seven nights in the Empathy Suite and an additional one-story Sky Villa (perhaps the mother-in-law apartment?) for seven nights.

The package includes two Formula One Hospitality Tickets with access to prime views of the track, indoor lounge and outdoor terrace, and all-inclusive food and beverage. Other members of your party will enjoy the six Grandstand tickets with up-close views of the track. The package also includes dinner for eight at Scotch 80 and a VIP table at the rooftop patio at Ghostbar.

The hotels have more affordable packages as well. At Resorts World, Grandstand Packages starting at $5,850 offer a Deluxe room in Resort’s Hilton Hotel. It also includes race seating in the T-Mobile Zone at Sphere Grandstand, two 3-day tickets for all-age admittance, complimentary food by Wolfgang Puck Catering, water and soft drinks at the race.

Resorts’ Skybox Packages put you in the Skybox in the East Harmon Zone By Virgin Hotels. In addition to the Skybox view and luxury layout, perks including VIP transportation and all-inclusive premium food and beverages at the race. Prices start at $21, 850 for a Deluxe Room in the Hilton. And if you want a 5-day Paddock Club package, Resorts World’s version starts at $40,500.

Wynn is offering an F1 Grandstand Package that includes four nights in a “sumptuously appointed Resort Room” at Wynn or Encore. The package also includes two “highly coveted” F1 Grandstand tickets. Pricing starts from $14,000.

The Wynn notes that musicians J Balvin, Major Lazer and Mark Ronson are set to headline the T-Mobile Zone at Sphere stage. Fans with grandstand and general admission tickets in the East Harmon Zone, West Harmon Zone, and T-Mobile Zone at Sphere will enjoy all-inclusive food curated by Wolfgang Puck Catering throughout race weekend.

Wynn’s Paddock Club experience includes a view of the race with prime seats and a “delectable range of food and beverage choices within a luxe environment .” The Paddock Club Package is based on reserving a four-night stay at a one-, two- or three-bedroom suite at Wynn or Encore. The deal includes two tickets to the race per suite bedroom, plus exclusive access to the Paddock Club. Prices start at $60,000.

MGM, as the leading casino resort company in Las Vegas, has several options. While the Bellagio Grandstands overlooking the track is sold out, the Bellagio Fountain Club also provides track and fountain views. Guests get to meet and greet F1 ambassadors; get unlimited food and beverage by celebrated chefs, master mixologists and sommeliers as well as access to the Club’s private indoor and rooftop hospitality decks. Bellagio Fountain Club packages include three-day event tickets. Available for $11,247 per person.

MGM also offers a PG1 Main Grandstand package including a four-day race ticket at the PG1 Main Grandstand. Up to two race tickets can be purchased per package and a minimum three-night stay is required. Food and non-alcoholic beverages within the grandstands are included. Tickets are available for $2,827 per person.

Paddock Club packages provide five-day access to the Formula 1 Paddock Club, including Opening Day Ceremony (November 15) & Recovery Brunch (November 19); premier seating with views of the start/finish line and team garages; access to purchase Paddock Pass & Hot Lap experiences; and an all-inclusive food and beverage menu inside Paddock Club. Paddock Club tickets are $16,860 per person.

These prices DO NOT include a room. A minimum three-night hotel stay is required at participating MGM Resorts properties. Taube of Resorts World believes that Formula One for patrons will “not just be a casino driven event—people will spend throughout the resort, not just the casinos.”

Resorts Worlds, like the rest of the Strip, will offer high-end entertainment, fine dining, sophisticated shopping and, of course, gaming, Vegas-speak for gambling.

Taube expects the crowd to be 60% international, 40% domestic. As just three of 2023’s Formula One races take place in the U.S., (Miami, Las Vegas and Austin, Texas), he says, “The domestic market is the growth market for Formula One.” As for the individual ticket buyer, Taube says, “Some people think it’s a bucket list item.”
