Taconic Distillery, located in the Hudson Valley of New York, handcrafts award-winning bourbon and rye whiskies in small batches using the finest ingredients, including grains grown in New York and natural spring water from their farm. The first of their two seasonal releases is the Dutchess Private Reserve October Blend 100 Proof.
Dutchess Private Reserve October Blend 100 Proof from Taconic Distillery.
Distilled from a mash of 70% corn, 25% rye and 5% barley and aged a minimum of 5 years in new charred American Oak barrels at 100 proof it is definitely a special seasonal treat. This bourbon has a beautiful bouquet of spice and honey with gentle notes of vanilla coming out to provide a smooth finish.
“Our oldest barrels are selected for this bottling,” says Paul Coughlin, founder of Taconic Distillery. “It’s subtle and sophisticated.” He says the bourbon is a fan favorite in Westchester County, due no doubt in part to the label that depicts the local legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Of course, this is a brilliant bourbon to sip on its own, but how can you use it in a cocktail? The distillery’s chief mixologist, Carol Ann Coughlin recommends an old fashioned or, our favorite, her take on a whiskey sour.
Try making a “Witchy Sour” with bourbon.
This bright, lemony cocktail is perfect for before trick-or-treating or anytime you want to evoke fall vibes. Best of all, it’s easy to mix up and has the perfect proportions for a balanced and delicious drink.
