Scottish Water is on the lookout for contractors to build a bumper processing facility in Scotland.
The water company is in the early stages of its search, and is looking for proposals to take on the mammoth project in central Scotland, which will process around 85,000 tonnes of dry solids every year once built.
The work to build the major bioresource processing facility is valued at £185m to £285m.
Scottish Water said in a 17 July notice that it would consider joint ventures, consortiums and “other arrangements” for the job.
It added: “Contractors must have experience in the delivery and commissioning of similar projects to be considered for this opportunity.”
The project will use a design-and-build model, with early involvement from contractors as part of a two-stage tender.
A contract notice is expected on 12 August this year, and Scottish Water envisages construction to begin in April 2027.
Once complete, the site will produce a class-A bioresource product that could be used for recycling and agricultural land.
“[The product will] maximise energy recovery and reduce the energy usage, carbon footprint and operating costs of bioresource treatment,” said the notice.
“Determining the most cost-effective design is a key aspect of the project.”
Up to three forms could be involved in early contractor involvement. Scottish Water said this phase will involve working collaboratively with the design consultant, the designated technology provider and the client “to progress the design and consider [the] buildability and commissioning aspects of the proposals”.
After the design has been finalised, the contractor will provide a price for the build and commissioning stage.
Interested contractors are invited to attend a bidders’ information day at Glasgow’s Principal Grand Central Hotel on 8 August at 10am.
