Bedfordshire-based offsite data-centre construction specialist AC Plc has filed for administration.
The firm, which posted a turnover of £49.1m – up from £20.7m the previous year – in its most recent set of accounts for the year ending 31 March 2022, lodged its court application on Friday.
AC Plc also recorded a pre-tax profit of under £1m in its latest accounts. Although it cited Brexit, Covid and the war in Ukraine as having put pressure on the business, it wrote that the company was “on track to achieve its growth strategy over the next few years”.
The firm employed a total of 193 staff at the end of the last financial year, including seven directors and 82 administrative staff.
AC Data, the firm’s data-centre construction arm, had completed internal and external work on data centres in Germany, Ireland, Denmark and Finland. Its most recent project was to provide roofing work and interior finishes on a data centre in the Netherlands, worth £3.5m, for a confidential client.
Data-centre construction is expanding exponentially, as more infrastructure is needed to serve a growing number of internet users. According to estate agents Savills, the number of data centres in Europe will need to increase by 2.5 times by 2025 to keep up with demand.
AC Manufacturing, another business within AC Plc, had conducted waterproofing and cladding work on the Shard. It also installed flooring and seating at the University of Oxford’s Bodleian Library.
AC Plc also had several subsidiaries operating in European countries including Germany, Spain and Belgium.
The company did not respond to a request from Construction News for comment.
