Access specialists win slots on £180m Sellafield framework

Altrad and Kaefer have landed places on a £180m deal at Sellafield.

Sellafield Programme and Project Partners (PPP) has appointed the specialists to deliver access solutions, insulation and painting services on major projects at the nuclear decommissioning site.

The framework is worth £90m to each of the companies over a 15-year period.

PPP, which formed in 2019, uses Project 13 principles, which seek to make procurement collaborative rather than transactional.

PPP head of supply chain John Rossiter said: “PPP is changing the dial, creating an enterprise based on commercially aligned, incentivised, long-term contracts, which give surety of work, confidence to invest in the region and puts small and medium-sized enterprises innovation into the earliest stages of project delivery.”

Altrad’s nuclear decommissioning director Paul Raper said: “The 15-year framework enables us to build on our 35-year relationship with Sellafield Ltd, while delivering long-term, sustainable projects which provide local employment opportunities and social value to the West Cumbria community.”

Kaefer UK & Ireland director for nuclear and defence Nick Walters said the award would help secure careers for existing employees and create new jobs at the company.

PPP is made up of Sellafield Ltd alongside four partners: lead integration partner KBR, design and engineering partner Jacobs, civils construction management partner Morgan Sindall, and process construction management partner Altrad Babcock.

There are more than 100 years of work planned to take place at the site.
