10 Of London’s Best New Restaurants For Fall 2023

London’s thriving food scene is fueled by a constant influx of innovative chefs and restaurateurs and its diverse multicultural influences. Here are ten of the newest dining experiences that contribute to London’s well-deserved reputation as a global culinary destination.

Daroco, Soho

The team behind the two popular Daroco restaurants located in Paris’s 2nd and 16th arrondissements have just opened Daroco Soho. The new trattoria, decorated in rich colors with velvet banquet seating and chic brass fixtures, brings a Franco-Italian menu designed with sharing in mind. Highlights include caponakchouka (a cross between an Italian caponata and shakshuka), homemade pizza and pasta such as pappardelle with red wine venison ragu. It’s a bold claim but the pizza with its delicious flavors, toppings and perfect crust is perhaps the best in London. The speakeasy bar downstairs feels like a secret place and the decor and sound effects of Formula One in the bathrooms is alone worth a visit.

Lavo, Marylebone

The chic Italian restaurant at the new luxury hotel The BoTree in Marylebone is part of The Tao Group (Hakkasan) so it’s no surprise that the service and food are stellar. American diners will recognise Lavo from the United States where there are restaurants in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The food is excellent and the portions are very generous so keep that in mind when ordering. Among the highlights are a huge one pound Wagyu meatball smothered in marinara sauce, topped with whipped ricotta and tagliatelle al limone with kaluga caviar. For dessert, there’s a 20-layer chocolate peanut butter cake that could feed an army.

L’Atelier Robuchon, Mayfair and Deli Robuchon, Chelesea

The late, great French chef Joel Robuchon’s Mayfair restaurant Le Comptoir Robuchon has been relaunched as L’Atelier Robuchon and what a joy it is. The atmosphere, elegant decor, service and food are formidable. The menu features the chef’s classics including purée de pomme de terre (often described as the best mashed potatoes on the planet) and sea bream carpaccio. Other superb dishes include crab salad and lobster spaghetti. The desserts are divine and the bread basket is astonishingly good (warm brioche, mini baguettes, and parmesan rolls). There’s a plush new bar area at the front for a more relaxed drink, accompanied by food if desired. Also recently open is Deli Robuchon on King’s Road in Chelsea, a casual all day dining deli, serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and aperitifs to eat in or take home.

Ixchel, Chelsea

Ixchel, the highly anticipated Mexican restaurant and Tequila bar opened this week in Chelsea. Ixchel brings a taste of Tulum to Kings Road with a menu featuring crab macha tostada, sautéed prawn quesadilla, pork belly taco, Suffolk Wagyu sirloin with chilmole sauce and for dessert, tres leche cake or, cinnamon custard crème, mango crème bruleé are both superb choices.

BKC, Soho

Biryani Kebab Chai (BKC) brings authentic Awadhi cuisine originating from Awadh (modern day Lucknow) in Northern India, to London. The petite restaurant serves traditional biryanis, northern Indian kebabs and chai, showcasing traditional ingredients, recipes and techniques. Keen to lead the way on sustainable hospitality, takeaway orders are plastic free, using cardboard for small items and reusable clay pots for their signature biryanis.

The Wolseley, City of London

A faithful replica of the original Wolseley restaurant on Piccadilly, with its black and white decor, Baroque ironwork and vaulted windows, this new sibling is in the heart of the Square Mile, in London’s financial district. The Wolseley City retains the “all-day” offering intrinsic to The Wolseley’s DNA. Menu highlights include Welsh Rarebit, Steak Tartare, and Lobster, Heritage Potato and Coppa Ham Salad. Oysters are superb and for a real treat, indulge in the Crustacea and Plateau de Fruits de Mer. Desserts hit the spot, including baked vanilla cheesecake and sachertorte. Breakfast, the meal that The Wolseley is best known for, includes all the classics, from Sausage and Egg Hash Brown with sauce diable, to a delightfully rich Eggs Royale, and Kedgeree with a poached egg.

Aragawa, Mayfair

Aragawa, the Tokyo restaurant that has been serving the finest specialist beef in Japan for over 50 years, has just opened in London. Founder Kotaro, along with Head Chef Kazuo Imayosh, has brought the rare Tajima heifer, which is seldom found outside of Aragawa in Tokyo, to London for the first time. The Tajima beef has to meet a strict list of criteria, including marbling standards, texture, firmness and the age of the cow must be at least 28 months. Aragawa prepares its beef in the classic way, broiled over Binchotan charcoal in a specially built kiln, seasoned only with salt and pepper and served with seasonal ingredients.

Uli, Marylebone

Tucked away near Edgware Road, healthy Asian restaurant Uli features dishes from around China and Southeast Asia, each prepared from scratch using traditional Chinese, Thai, Malay and Singaporean methods. Thai green curry, prawn dim sum and prawn spring rolls were all perfectly prepared and delicious.

Kolae, Borough Market

Mark Dobbie and Andy Oliver, the owners of the super popular Thai restaurant, Som Saa in Spitalfields have opened their second restaurant, this time in the buzzy Borough market. Kolae draws its name from Kolae, a cooking style from Southern Thailand where ingredients are generously bathed in a curry-like coconut marinade, before being grilled over open flames and smouldering coconut. Located in an old coach house, guests can sit at the counter overlooking the open fire kitchen, or in the first floor’s intimate, leafy oasis.

Azzurra, Chelsea

New Italian seafood restaurant from the Aqua Restaurant Group features a “boat to table” philosophy, using the UK’s best sustainably sourced fish and seafood offering catch of the day, salt-baked Dover sole and swordfish Milanese. A three course express lunch is great value at £30 with a menu including fritto misto, Branzino and linguine alle vongole.
